Ship code faster by letting your terminal write the boring tests. Ponicode CLI turns unfinished or weakly tested modules into well-verified code with a single sweep. Install it, point it at your repository, and it drafts unit tests that match your framework and folder layout. Start by running an init step to detect your stack and create a config file. Then run a generate pass on a package, directory, or single file. You’ll get readable test files alongside your sources, using your naming conventions and test runner, so you can review, tweak, and commit like any other code.
Use it while you work, not just at release time. When you add a new function, run the CLI with a target flag to produce focused tests for that function, including boundary inputs, error cases, and typical user scenarios. If the implementation changes, rerun with an update option to append or adjust cases without overwriting your edits. Configure minimum coverage per module; if the threshold isn’t met, the command will suggest where to add more assertions or mocks. Wire it into a pre-commit hook to guard against regressions, or call it in your CI pipeline so every push refreshes tests for changed files and fails the build if coverage drops.
Tackling legacy systems is where it shines. Aim it at low-confidence areas to quickly raise protection before a refactor. The CLI maps public APIs, flags uncovered branches, and drafts tests that exercise edge paths such as nulls, empty collections, large numbers, and exception flows. External calls are automatically stubbed so your tests stay fast and deterministic. You can focus on high-risk folders first, filter by glob patterns, and run in dry-run mode to preview the changes. When migrating frameworks or runtimes, regenerate tests against the new stack to keep behavior locked while you evolve internals.
Make the output fit your team’s style. In the config file, set preferred frameworks, file locations, mock strategies, data generation depth, and naming rules. Choose how aggressive generation should be: smoke tests only, or deeper scenario coverage. Pin a seed for reproducible inputs across machines. Enable change-aware mode to touch only modified files, or full-scan mode before a release. The result is a repeatable workflow: draft with the CLI, review in your editor, keep what adds value, and let automation enforce coverage targets in every branch.
